They go after the plants that are currently blooming for the season because it looks nice and are attracted to the single specimen. Style, continuity, and plant characteristics are not always taken into account. So they take the plants home, place them in their garden, and are often times not totally satisfied either because the plant does not thrive or does not work well with the other plants in creating a design style. So what they get is a hodge-podge of plant material that is not being used properly.

SonRise Plant Palettes takes the guess-work out of plant selection. Input your county and city, and your climate zone is identified. From there, choose from many design ‘themes’ such as English Cottage, Hollywood Zen, and Southwestern and see photos of plant material from each. Once the theme is selected, enter other design needs such as plants to use by pools/spas, deer resistant, heavily shaded areas, slopes, etc.

After you input all the necessary design criteria, your project is ready to be downloaded. Along with the list of plants that are usable for your project, you get a profile of each of the plants on the list which give the plants characteristics. You also get discounts to networked nurseries (subject to individual nursery participation), online design support from the professionals at Sonrise Plant Palettes, and ‘Planting design 101’ which gives basic garden layout and plant placement principles.

SonRise Plant Palettes was founded by California Polytechnic University Pomona graduate, Dominic Paul Masiello. Dominic got his BS in Landscape Architure and has focused his career on planting design. This website is based upon Dominic’s years of stydy and research on planting design techniques and plant material. Home and Garden Television (HGTV) has filmed Dominic’s designs on numerous occasions. HGTV’s new show ‘Get Out Way Out’, which will start in May of 2007, will feature Dominic and one of his latest projects in Mission Viejo, California.

Dominic has teamed up with other talented and knowledgeable landscape designers in making this site what it is today. Gary Robinson and Steve Ortega play an essential part in continuing the goal of excellence. SonRise Plant Palettes offers a tremendous product which represents years of planting design knowledge.
